Something About “L”

Born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky.  I attended a university to become a journalist.  The creative writing bug bit me after three years so I chose that route.

I plan to finally publish some creative writing in 2017 and 2018.  Nia Magazine published my poem for their January 10, 2017 issue  at:

Writing Journey…Power of Music

The next step is my book that will feature poetry and inspirational stories.  It will just feature some short life lessons. I have had many setbacks and endured a lot so I just wanted to write about how I know anyone can make it through adversity and insecurities.  I want to pay it forward and teach others what I have learned along the way.  I still have a lot to learn though. 🙂

Music  and dance is a HUGE part of my life. I couldn’t use a page that introduces me without talking about my love of music and so many different genres. Jazz is one of my favorite genres, but I listen to everything. I am a HUGE fan of Miles Davis, Janet Jackson, Esperanza Spalding, Alana Davis, Robert Glasper, the Dave Matthews Band, Coldplay, James Blake, Ben Howard, The Civil Wars (now disbanded *sad face*) and Yuna.

Esperanza Spalding…what an amazing concert – October 2016. ( Photo credit: My own photo)

Alana Davis performing my 2nd favorite song by her – “Turtle”.  This video is from 2014. (Video: Courtesy of YouTube)

I discovered the song, “32 Flavors” not long before I turned 18.  My theme song forever and always…”32 Flavors” (Alana Davis’ cover of Ani DiFranco’s song).  I always talked about this being my theme song in college – so much so that a guy friend of mine would ask me on any given day which flavor I was.  🙂  I could go on and on about how much Alana’s music had an impact on my life. I wish I could see her live one day!!!

The Civil Wars – This duo was just too good – sad they broke up.  The chemistry between the two was so great.  The music endures though.   (Videos: Courtesy of YouTube)

Ben Howard – A friend introduced me to his music.  Thank you!!!! His music makes me cry, smile…just all these emotions.  He is THAT good. (Video Credit – Courtesy of YouTube)

Love. Love. Love. Robert Glasper…that is all.  I want to see him live so so bad. (Video: Courtesy of YouTube)

Gotye -“Making Mirrors” –  love this little snippet…(Video/Audio Credit – Courtesy of YouTube).  I was obsessed with this album back in 2014.

Last but not least…I had to include this video because it’s  “SO”  California!!!  The song is great too.  There are some great bands that have come out of California.  California vibes!!! I have never wanted to LIVE in a video so bad.  This video makes me want to be the lady in the video and just walk around and hang out in Los Angeles every night. I enjoyed Los Angeles and have to get back one day soon. (Video: Courtesy of YouTube)

Humor is everything to me. Laughter really is the best medicine.  If you take yourself too seriously I don’t think we can be friends…haha.     Peace!!!
